Shopify Email (options)

Shopify Flow includes built-in Abandoned Cart and Abandoned Checkout automations that can send reminder emails to shoppers.

The Abandoned Cart automation has a critical limitation: it only restores product IDs and quantities. Line item properties (where product options are stored) are not recovered. This is a Shopify limitation and affects any app that stores personalization data on the cart items.

The Abandoned Checkout automation is not affected. It restores the full checkout, including line item properties and uploaded files.

Abandoned cart recovery is also limited because most shoppers have not provided an email address while still on the cart page. Shopify normally collects the email address during checkout. Depending on the customer's country and applicable consent requirements, it might also be required to ask for explicit marketing consent before reminder emails can be sent.

This guide explains how to create a custom Shopify Flow using the app's own Product Saved trigger. This makes it possible to send recovery emails for saved personalized products before the customer reaches checkout.

The setup to allow customers to save personalized products is described here: Customer Saved Products

Requirements

The setup requires the following apps;

Setup

Open Shopify Flow and create a new workflow. Select the LPO Live Product Options > Product Saved trigger:

Add a next step Action > select Messaging > Send marketing email:

On the Email template section, click on "Select template".

There might be a sample template, you can set some colors if you like, but after click on "Next" to choose a new template.  Scroll to find the "Blank" template, and select this template:

Saved Product Email Template

To design the email template, open a second tab and navigate into the Live Product Options App > Settings > Customer account settings section > click on “Saved Product Email”:

You can edit the email template by selecting your preferred color scheme and language and simply describing any layout or formatting changes you want to make. The AI will adjust the template to match your preferences:

Note: unfortunately, at the current time, Shopify email does not support displaying dynamic products from a Shopify flow trigger. The only thing we can display in the email is a button link that goes back to the cart page, which will restore the products.

After you are happy with the email template design, click on "Copy template" to save it to your clipboard. Next back in the Shopify Messaging app, click on "Add section" > Custom Liquid:

Paste the copied email template into the Code text box:

Note: edit the footer and header to match your brand, adjust the subject, and save the template.

Make sure to select the template on your Shopify Flow action.

Follow up reminders

It is recommended to follow up with the customer after X days if no order is made since the first email was sent.

The best way to set this up is to tell Shopify Sidekick to build this for you:

Wait X days after the first follow-up, then check for at most one non-cancelled order from this customer placed in the last X days. If no order is found, follow up again; otherwise, stop.

If you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team directly in the app.
