Does the upload field work in the Shopify Shop app?

No. The upload field only appears in your Shopify online store, the storefront that runs your theme in a web browser.

The Shop app is a separate, native mobile environment. It does not render your theme, so the theme app embed and the app block that place the upload field on your product page never load there. The same applies to the other apps, which all rely on the theme.

What this means for orders

  • A customer who buys the same product through the Shop app places an order without an uploaded file. The order is created normally, it simply carries no upload.
  • Customers who open your store in a mobile browser (Safari, Chrome, or the in-app browser of a link they tapped) are on the online store, so the upload field works as usual there.

  • Or ask for the file after the order, see our Customer Extension guide.
  • Keep products that require a file upload out of the Shop app sales channel, so they can only be ordered through the online store.
